Prep Time 10 minutes | Ready in less than 1 hour | Serves 4 people

Ingredients

  • Homemade Tomato Sauce:

    • 2 14 oz. Cans of Tomato Sauce (I like Kirkland brand from Costco)

    • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil

    • 1/2 cup diced or minced Onion

    • 2 Garlic Cloves minced

    • 1/2 teaspoon Dried Italian Seasoning

    • 1/2 teaspoon Salt

    • pinch of Red Pepper Flakes

Preparation

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large sauté pan over medium-low heat. Add onion and cook, stirring until the onion softens but does not brown. Add the minced garlic, Italian seasonings, salt and red pepper flakes and cook for another minute.

  2. Pour in the canned tomato sauce and cook on simmer for a minimum of 30 minutes to an hour. The longer you cook the sauce the better it will taste.

This is a wonderful base sauce that can be used for spaghetti, any Italian dish or homemade pizza. It is also a great substitute for store bought tomato sauce that can be higher in added sugars and preservatives. It stores well in the fridge for a few days or in the freezer for up to 6 months.
